Ocean Soul

Ocean Soul

My first five hundred dives weren't in exotic oceans. They were in lakes and quarries. Cold, murky water where you could barely see your hand in front of your face sometimes.

And I felt it there too.

That feeling. The one that's hard to explain to people who haven't experienced it. Absolute freedom and total connection at the same time. Weightless but grounded. Alone but part of something vast. That awareness that you're suspended in an element that doesn't care about your to-do list or your problems or who you're supposed to be on land.

Underwater, you're just another creature. Moving through the same water as the fish, the plants, the rocks that have been there longer than you've been alive. You're not separate from nature—you're in it. Part of it. Connected to all of it in a way you can't fake or force.

Wyland said, "The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul." For me, it's that paradox. Total freedom in an environment that could kill you if you're not careful. Complete independence while being utterly dependent on the ecosystem around you. Solitude that somehow makes you feel more connected to everything than you do in a room full of people.

That's ocean soul. Not just loving the beach or thinking water is pretty. It's that deep recognition that we're all connected—nature and us. That we're not standing outside looking in. We're part of the whole thing.

I've spent twenty-five years chasing that feeling. In lakes, quarries, kelp forests, coral reefs, shipwrecks. It doesn't matter where the water is. What matters is that moment when you descend and remember: you are nature. Not separate from it. Not above it. In it. Of it. Connected to all of it.

Meditation Focus for August:

Your Turquoise this month carries that energy. That reminder that you're not isolated. You're part of something bigger—whether you feel it underwater, in mountains, in forests, in your garden, or anywhere you stop and actually notice you're alive in a living world. Where do you feel that connection most strongly?

This month isn't about finding some new spiritual practice. It's about remembering what you already know when you're paying attention. We're all connected. To each other. To the earth. To the water. To everything breathing and growing and existing alongside us.

I built my life around staying close to that feeling. Not because I'm more enlightened than anyone else. Because forgetting that connection—forgetting I'm part of nature, not separate from it—makes me feel lost. Anxious. Alone.

Remembering it? That's freedom.

Flow rather than force,
Szilvia
